What I hadn’t thought about when learning a new language was that it’s not only the words that are different. The sounds that things make are different too. For example in Dutch cows say “boo” and cockerels crow “kukuleku”.
And recently I found out that the sirens of Dutch emergency vehicles go tatu tatu not nee-nah. The sound they make is the same, just how it’s written out is different. And listening to a siren I could hear both in it.
We had lots of fun recently at the local fire brigade open day. Complete with a demo burning car and casualty to show how they respond to incidents. It made quite a show! The children enjoyed having a go with the hosepipes and pretending to be a firefighter.
I wonder if there’s a Dutch “see-and-say” toy where when you point to the cow, it says “BOO.”?
Absolutely! https://www.bol.com/nl/p/wat-hoor-je-boerderij/9200000011139633/ for example
