The last few weeks have been glorious here, and (a few thunderstorms aside) we’ve had temperatures in the top twenties nearly all month. And as we have been fairly relaxed at the weekends – spending most of them at home – we have been enjoying BBQs. To keep the children away from it when it’s hot we ring it with sticks to show how far away they need to keep. And generally they are good at not stepping over them. Fortunately they are good at collecting them, so we have a range of sticks to choose from! And I think we’ve already eaten outside more than we did all of last year, and it’s only just the end of May!

I know the English are big on barbecuing, but is this true of the Dutch or are you introducing wonderful customs in your adopted land?
Our bbqs are nothing like in South Africa, Australia or Brazil, but similar to what the Dutch do. Supermarkets have plentiful options for things to grill at this time of the year!
