When rocket boy first started school I wondered why there were a series of small depressions across the school playground, along the edge of the buildings. The answer is that they’re for playing marbles (or knikkers in Dutch – I couldn’t resist the title!). Starry boy is starting to play this regularly with his school mates. So we have scoured the house for marbles, and found quite a collection. Lucky I’d kept the odd bag we’d got in Christmas crackers!

Every day he takes his bag of marbles in and we see what he comes home with. It is a competitive game, so marbles get won and lost between them, depending on who gets their marble in the dibble first, or last. To be honest I’m not quite sure of the rules!  But it seems popular with all the children from group 3 (rocket boy’s class) and up across the school.
