Last week was the 71st anniversary of the liberation of the Netherlands at the end of the Second World War. To celebrate this there was a parade of vehicles round the area, which we were lucky enough to catch some of.
Sitting at the side of the road watching all these old vehicles come past really drove home (!) the difference in wartime experience between the UK and most of continental Europe. I can’t imagine what it was like to live in an occupied country.
And the cars with what looked like war veterans were particularly emotional for me – how things must have changed since they were here 71 years ago.
