My best books of 2019.png

Last year I wrote about the books I’d read and most enjoyed in 2018. So this year I’m doing it again. My Goodreads target for this year was to read 52 books (one a week) and I’ve logged 107 so far, with almost a month to go for the end of the year. More than double what my goal was, especially considering there are a number of boxsets included in that! Though I don’t think my stash of digital books yet to read has diminished very much, in fact it might now be longer than it was at the beginning of the year. I shall have to focus on that next year I think!

Anyway, here are the books (or series) that I have enjoyed most this year:

  • The Defiant Heir and The Unbound Empire – both by Melissa Caruso. Book one in this series was on my list last year and books 2 & 3 didn’t disappoint. I can’t wait for her next book.
  • The Darker Shade of Magic series by Victoria Schwab. Book 1 was a re-read before reading book 2 & 3 and they are superb.
  • Cinder by Marissa Meyer. This is an amazing retelling of Cinderella with cyborgs and people living on the moon. I could barely put this down, which is the first time I’ve found that reading in Dutch! I’m now reading book 2.
  • In the middle of the year I went on a bit of a Will Wight binge. The world of the cradle series is so unique, and I love the idea of the Elder Empire series, where he’s writing the same story but from two different points of view.
  • King of Ruin by May Sage. I’m a big May Sage fan and this is one of her best yet. Though NSFW.
  • Rose Gate by Hanna Sandvig. Another fairy tale retelling, this time of Beauty and the Beast. Though it’s a bit slow to get going it is really sweet and touching.
  • Truth Seer by Kay L Moody. Such an original idea and the twist at the end! I still haven’t got over it!
  • Take off your pants by Libby Hawker. This is a solid writing craft book which I can’t recommend enough. And my son’s face when I told him I was reading a book with the word Pants in the title was just a picture!

I would recommend all of these books, so if you’re interested go and look them up on your favourite retailer or library. And if you’re interested to see what else I’ve read, or what I want to read, then check out my profile on Goodreads.

What were your favourite books of this year?
