Annual review 2018.png

My goals for 2018 were:

  • focus on writing
  • improve daily routines
  • look after me
  • talk to friends

My writing has gone well, although I haven’t hit the target of 1000 words a day over the year, I have written more than I did last year. I’ve also edited a series of short stories and started publishing them. I wanted to spend time exploring my writing, and working on different things, so I feel I have succeeded at that. I’ve also submitted a couple of short stories to competitions and a magazine, from which I have had good feedback on my writing. I am taking part in the 365 Challenge again, where I’m aiming for 1000 words a day again, and am one of the admins for a second year. In 2019 I want to build on this and publish my first novel, as well as some other things. My goal will be six, including the short story that is scheduled for the 3rd Jan.

My daily routines are still a work in progress. I feel I have made progress on these, but not as much as I would like. Which is tied in to looking after me. I am learning to relax about a lot of things, and let go of the control. But I struggle with that. So I still need to work on this. I think for 2019 I want to focus on sticking to whatever task I am scheduled at any time to do. Whether that is writing or entertaining the children, I want to enjoy that rather than trying to do something else at the same time.

I had big plans in the beginning of the year to call friends and talk to them, but that hasn’t really got started. Unless I have a specific reason to talk to someone I stay away from the phone, and send messages. Maybe this is something I just need to accept. I am always open to hearing from others, and I’ll continue to be proactive about contacting people. And using a range of tools to do that – this blog, twitter, facebook and Pinterest as well as text messages and Whatsapp.

And then we have the house. At the beginning of the year we had a tentative idea that we would move sometime in the next couple of years. Well, that’s happened. We have bought a new house, and the renovations have started. So next year will be more about the house, and finishing those off. This is a big time suck, even though I’m not doing the work myself. Just keeping all the builders on track and working with each other, and ensuring that the details are how we want it, takes a considerable amount of time.

Again this year I have taken part in Quest2019, which has provided me with a whole range of things to think about in relation to what I want to achieve. As I am now publishing books, and working in a more business-like fashion, this is something that I can better build on going in to 2019.

So for 2019 I will:

  • Publish a least six things
  • Stick to schedule
  • Finish the house renovations

I’m really excited to see what 2019 brings!

Happy New Year to you all.
