Dutch public libraries have an annual offer, where for the months of July and August they provide a pre-defined list of ebooks freely available for all library members. These books are all in Dutch, but they cover a variety of age groups (from 4yo to adult) and a variety of genres. They’re available through a separate app, called VakantieBieb (or holiday library), which is available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play.

This is the first year that I’ve been aware of it in time, so I have downloaded some of the books and I shall see how much use we make of it over the summer. It sounds like it will be useful to help maintain the children’s level of Dutch through the summer, when they’re not at school and so won’t be using it so much. Except with each other!

I haven’t really explored what ebooks are available through the libraries here, so maybe this will be the stepping stone to that!
