Overall this has been a difficult year – I’ve been back to the UK for two funerals, there’s been a variety of family accidents and illnesses, and of course no-one really knows the implications of the Brexit referendum result. It has definitely been a year of digging in and working through what’s going on. Hopefully the worst has passed now…

My goals for the year were

  • Write
  • Connect
  • Smile
  • Create

I have written more than in previous years, though not as much as I would like. Although I have blogged more this year than I have since either  of my children were born so I shouldn’t be too hard on myself. The last couple of months I have started writing more and I plan to keep this up through 2017 and write a little bit every day.

I do feel that my connection to my children is better now than it was, which is good. I do need to ensure this continues as I will lose my time every week with just rocket boy, as starry girl’s preschool sessions will be changing. So I will spend time every day focusing on each member of my family.

I have tried to smile more and approach things positively and constructively, so I am happy with how I’m done with this.

As the children grow we can do a greater variety of arts and crafts. And I am more able to do things alongside them, rather than needing to do everything with them. So I am being creative, though there are a number of projects that I want to do for myself.

I do feel a bit that I’ve hit all the small goals, but missed the more important ones for 2016. I am a serial procrastinator and waste too much time so I want to be more proactive about what I do. The last few months I have started some new routines (waking earlier, contacting people, being more active) that I want to continue with. And I want to pass my exam on Dutch as a foreign language this year. Then when starry girl starts school I have all my options open to me for what I want to do.

So for 2017 I want to:

  • Write every day
  • Pass NT2 level 2 Dutch exam
  • Spend time everyday with each member of my family
  • Be proactive about what I do
